Vertigris: Active Practice exhibition, Maltwood Gallery, Victoria, BC, 2006.
This video installation reflects my own memories and dreams of moments and places of safety and protection. Stepping into the felt-enclosed room is the visual equivalent of a walk in my mind. The video of the perfect backyard summer day and a slow zoom out from a grand piano, punctuated by tiny birds taking flight and a battle of shadow puppets, mirror my memories of comfort. The wooden compass with a blade on one end hanging over a stack of drawings shielded by wasabi peas represents my everyday reality.
